About Creative Owl

Creative Owl is a small UK children’s book maker. Every book is written and illustrated by Danielle Williams, with one goal: give a two-year-old something simple enough to follow and bright enough to come back to.

Why the books look the way they do

Early years books often try to do too much at once. A page crowded with numbers, words and detail gives a toddler nowhere to look. Our pages do the opposite — one number, one colour or one pair of opposites at a time, with plenty of space around it.

The animals do the rest of the work, and they pull in two directions on purpose. Half of them a child can already name — a cow, a duck, a lion — and that familiarity is what makes a new idea stick. The other half they have never met: a meerkat, a flamingo, a wiggly octopus. Those are the pages they come back for, and the ones that quietly add a word to their vocabulary.

That is why every book is set somewhere a child has been or wants to go, with room in it for something they have not seen before.

Three series, three worlds

The 10 books are grouped into three series. Each covers the same three learning topics, so once a child has enjoyed one, the next is a very short step.

  • Farm Adventures Counting, colours and opposites with friendly farm animals — for toddlers and pre-schoolers.
  • Zoo Adventures Counting, colours and opposites with favourite zoo animals — bright, simple and made for sharing.
  • Aquarium Adventures Underwater learning with friendly sea creatures — counting, colours and opposites beneath the waves.
  • Halloween A gentle, non-frightening Halloween counting adventure — friendly ghosts, smiling pumpkins and pumpkins to count on every page.
