Privacy policy
This policy explains what Creative Owl does with personal data, and what rights you have over it. It covers www.creativeowl.uk only.

Who we are
Creative Owl is a small independent children’s book publisher based in the United Kingdom, run by Danielle Williams. For the purposes of UK data protection law we are the data controller for this website.
You can reach us at hello@creativeowl.uk.
What this site collects
This is a static website. It has no accounts, no login, no shop, no comments and no contact form. There is nowhere on it for you to type personal information, and we do not ask for any.
The only data involved is:
| What | Why | Legal basis | Kept for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Server access logs (IP address, page requested, browser, time) | Keeping the site online and defending it against abuse | Legitimate interests — running a secure website | Up to 30 days |
| Analytics: pages viewed, approximate region, device type, referring site | Understanding which books people are interested in, so we know what to publish next | Your consent | Matomo: 13 months. Google Analytics: 14 months. |
| Emails you send us | Replying to you | Legitimate interests — responding to an enquiry you started | As long as needed for the conversation, then up to 2 years |
We do not collect data from children. The books are for young children, but this website is written for the adults buying them.
Analytics
We use two analytics tools, and neither runs until you press “Accept” on the cookie banner:
- Matomo, self-hosted on our own server. Your data stays on infrastructure we control and is not shared with anyone.
- Google Analytics 4, run by Google. IP anonymisation is switched on. Google may process data outside the UK; those transfers rely on the UK International Data Transfer Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
If your browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal, we treat that as a refusal and never ask. Our cookie policy lists the specific cookies involved and how to change your mind.
Amazon links
Every “Buy on Amazon” button on this site is an Amazon Associates affiliate link. When you follow one, Amazon may set its own cookies and will know you arrived from us. What you then do on Amazon is covered by Amazon’s privacy notice, not this one. We never see your name, address or payment details — only anonymous, aggregated reports of how many items were bought.
Who else is involved
- Our hosting provider — serves the site files and keeps the access logs described above.
- Google — Google Analytics and the web fonts, which are self-hosted by our build so no request goes to Google when you load a page.
- Amazon — only if you click through to buy.
We do not sell or rent personal data to anyone, ever.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask us to give you a copy of the data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, restrict what we do with it, or object to processing based on legitimate interests. Where processing is based on consent, you can withdraw it at any time using the “Cookie settings” link in the footer.
Email hello@creativeowl.uk and we will respond within one month. In practice, because the site collects so little, there is usually nothing tied to you as an individual for us to find.
If you think we have got something wrong you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk. We would rather you told us first so we can put it right.
Changes
If this policy changes we will update the date at the top of the page. Material changes to how we use analytics will reset the consent banner, so you get asked again.
